Each year, the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board provides the public with a report regarding the gaming industry in the state. Usually, this report only consists of financial details and give insight into how each operator fared. This time around, the report discusses how more online casinos are coming to the state with up to 10 new options expected to launch.
This revelation helps players to see that the existing online casino market in Pennsylvania is going to grow and offer much more options than it does now. This is big news, considering the market is already doing well.
Look to the Future
In the fiscal report, the Control Board added a Look to the Future section. In this part of the report, it showed that Pennsylvania staff members are working on the launch of up to 10 additional online sites that will offer casino games. Already, there are 19 providers in the state that offer online slot options, table games and poker.
In the previous fiscal year, such operations garnered $1.23 billion in revenues. This was a 37% jump from the previous year’s totals. The report does not indicate as to who will be entering the market, but a recent media report suggests it could be Golden Nugget, WynnBET, Fubo, Fanatics, Playstar, and Bally’s Interactive.
Operators are applying for online casino gaming and some for sports betting services. The Control Board also indicated that other operators are expected to fill out an application for licensing via online gambling in the future.
There is no date set for when licenses will be approved and when the new sites will launch. Operators must pay a $1 million fee to get started in the state and have a land-based partner that has an interactive gaming license before they are even considered.
Sports Betting Growth is Limited
It is important to note that while more sports betting is coming the option for growth is limited. Each land-based casino in the state has the ability to earn a sports betting license. All of the casinos in the state have one except Lady Luck Nemacolin. Each land-based venue is then limited to one digital site for services.
In the future, satellite casinos will have the option to offer sports betting, which would help grow the market. Parx is working on a mini venue in Shippensburg and it should be live by the first of next year. It will offer a retail sports betting space and could get into the online market as well.
Licensing is possibly for a satellite casino via Bally’s Corp., with the option being considered soon.
